Tackle Your Spring Roofing Inspections Like a Pro

3 MIN READ

Spring has officially arrived. Now is the time for professional contractors to help their clients take charge of their spring roofing inspections.

Here’s how one roofing contractor conducts a spring roofing inspection

Kevin Varnadore is President of Crescent Construction. Since its founding in 2011, the company has grown to be among the largest roofing contractors in the state of South Carolina.

“Crescent’s team of qualified roofing professionals will start inside the home, where dark stains and water marks on the walls or ceiling could indicate a roof leak or perhaps a plumbing problem.”

“Next, we go outside to the top of the roof’s ridge. We take photos in all directions so homeowners can see any damage for themselves. They don’t have to take our word for it.”

“We check all flashingsvalleys and other roof structures for signs of leaks or corrosion. We make sure there’s adequate ventilation according to the most recent building codes.”

“We look very closely for missing, loose or curled-up roofing shingles. If the gutters are full of granules or the shingles are brittle with age, they’ll need to be replaced and we’ll explain to the homeowner why this is necessary.”

Flowers Aren’t the Only Things that Pop Up in the Spring

Varnadore cautions that, every year, he sees homeowners falling victim to roofing crews that suddenly appear in the neighborhood. “Often, they’re from out of state and have no idea about our climate or local building codes. And, once the work is done and paid for, they’re nowhere to be found.”

He says residential re-roofing projects are the mainstay of his business and his background includes a career in the insurance industry, as well as in construction. He urges homeowners to do their homework before hiring anyone to work on their property.

“Be sure the contractor you hire is bonded, has insurance and is willing to answer all your questions. Educating our customers is a big, and very important, part of our process at Crescent.”

IKO Dynasty® Roofing Shingles: A Big Hit with Homeowners

Varnadore says that IKO Dynasty – the latest addition to the line-up of IKO roofing shingles – is proving to be tremendously popular with homeowners.

“They love the color blends and how great these designer roofing shingles make their homes look. My crews love how fast and easy they are to install.”

Summers in Columbia are extremely hot and humid; algae-resistance is an important feature. Hail and high winds are common, too. Varnadore’s customers appreciate that IKO Dynasty roofing shingles resist wind uplift so well.

“At Crescent, we’re known for supplying quality products like IKO roofing shingles and other components like IKO underlayments; we don’t mix’n’match product from different sources. We’re fully committed to customer service and to our community.”

“Reputable contractors demonstrate their integrity to homeowners by taking the time to explain their process, quotes, products and warranties.”
