For superior weather protection that’s engineered to last, IKO manufactures asphalt roofing shingles in both North America and Europe.
No matter what their style of home or personal taste, homeowners will find the perfect profile and color blend, along with matching accessory products, to create a stunning roofscape.
IKO plants in North America manufacture three classes of asphalt shingles: traditional 3-tab, architectural laminated and premium designer. IKO also produces a complete line of high-quality accessory products that include ice and water protectors, underlayments, starter strips, hip and ridge cap shingles and rigid polyisocyanurate (ISO) insulation board.
In Europe, IKO plants manufacture the same three classes of shingle as in North America, although there are some stylistic differences among them. IKO Europe also produces a fourth class of asphalt shingle called a “shield” shingle. Shield shingles are self-adhesive shingles engineered for maximum wind resistance.
IKO manufactures rolled roofing and accessories, building envelope, and waterproofing and insulation products for commercial and industrial markets in both North America and Europe.
In North America, IKO specializes in the manufacture of commercial roofing systems, ranging from mechanically attached to heat-welded (APP and SBS), cold-applied membranes and built-up roofing (BUR). They also manufacture a full range of building envelope products: thermal insulation, air/vapor barriers, overlay and cover boards, adhesives, primers and other accessories.
In Europe, IKO’s individual plants are market leaders specializing in the manufacture of bituminous and synthetic roofing membranes, liquid waterproofing products, rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation boards and other products for flat-roof applications in commercial and industrial markets.
For infrastructure and civil engineering projects, IKO manufactures waterproofing systems for balconies, terraces, galleries, roofs and roof details, car parks, flood defense, parking decks, road and bridge construction, and surfacing. Product systems include hot melt bitumen, mastic asphalt, polyurethane and PMMA coatings.
In North America and Europe, IKO operates plants that specialize in the manufacture of innovative insulation products for residential and commercial applications.
IKO is among the market leaders in the manufacture of rigid polyisocyanurate insulation board. This product is engineered to provide improved thermal resistance in wall or roof applications.
Known generically as ISO in North America, IKO’s product is available in two formats for residential applications. IKO Ener-Air has a non-organic coated glass facer on both sides that allows the product to be vapor-permeable, providing increased drying potential to the assemblies it is used in. IKO Enerfoil is faced with a thin sheet of aluminum foil on both sides, making it vapor-impermeable. When applied as a system that includes taped joints, the foil-faced polyiso product can act as the insulation, air, water and vapor control layer all in one.
For North American commercial low-slope roofing applications, the insulation sells under the trade names IKOTherm, IKOTherm III and IKOTherm Tapered.
In Europe, rigid polyisocyanurate insulation board is commonly referred to as PIR instead of ISO but the two terms describe the same non-structural sheathing product. IKO’s European plants currently produce the enertherm™ brand exclusively. This product is available for a wide range of very specific applications in both the residential and commercial markets — for example, flat or pitched roofs, floors, loft ceilings, walls or floors, cavity walls, basements and exterior walls, to name but a few.
