The IKO Cambridge Cool Colors Collection Can Elevate a Home’s Appearance, its Solar Reflectance and Potentially its Energy Efficiency Too.

IKO designed the three lines of the Cambridge Cool Colors Collection as an important variation on our popular IKO Cambridge architectural shingles. We specifically engineered them to be used to comply with California’s 2016 Title 24, Part 6, Cool Roof Requirement, to help reduce a home’s carbon footprint and potentially reduce the homeowner’s energy bills.

Two of the lines also comply with the more stringent environmental standards of the Los Angeles City and County Green Building Code.

How did we achieve this?

The secret is in the granules.

To achieve a Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) of 20-plus, we embed surface granules that are specially designed with infrared-reflective pigments to transmit less of the sun’s solar energy or radiant heat into a home’s attic. This helps keep the home cooler and more energy-efficient.

Cambridge Cool Colors COOL PLUS and Cambridge Cool Colors COOL shingles have an SRI of 20 or greater, which is necessary to comply with the stringent roof reflectance requirements of the Los Angeles City and County Green Building Code.

Cambridge Cool Colors Natural Cool shingles have an SRI of 16 or greater. Thanks to their light color blends, they comply with California’s 2016 Title 24, Part 6, cool roof requirement, for other areas. Note that the Arctic White color blend exclusively has an SRI of 23 and can therefore be used in areas governed by the Los Angeles City and County Green Building Code.

Exactly how much homeowners can save on their energy costs will depend on their area’s geography, climate, utility rates, HVAC system and other factors.

IKO’s exclusive, advanced color-blending technology has virtually eliminated the nuisance of mismatched color lots for you. And, in the case of IKO’s Cambridge Cool Colors Collection, it has allowed us to create some surprising color blends. Why surprising? Because homeowners might expect their color choices to be limited to white or very light colors. They’ll be delighted to discover our selection now includes a variety of more conventional, ever-popular color blends as well. Keep in mind that Dual Grey in IKO’s Cool Colors COOL line is the collection’s only color blend that offers blue-green algae resistance.

In every other physical respect, the three lines of shingles in IKO’s Cool Colors Collection are identical to IKO Cambridge laminated architectural shingles, with their generous 5-7/8″ exposure and the IKO “Advantage” size that gives you the “True Square Advantage” of yielding exactly 100 square feet of coverage with three bundles. Each bundle contains 60 shingles. Some other brands provide a bit less coverage per bundle, so you’d have to buy one or more extra bundles just to make up the difference. That can really add up and waste material.

IKO Cambridge Cool Colors COOL PLUS

Homeowners will love our top-of-the-line line because the unexpected darker color blends you can offer create a high-end designer look for fantastic curb appeal. Until recently, homeowners had to opt for lighter color blends in order to achieve a high Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) to help reduce their carbon footprint and help save on home energy costs.

These shingles have an SRI of 20 or greater to meet or exceed the roof reflectance requirements of the Los Angeles City and County Green Building Code.

IKO Cambridge Cool Colors COOL PLUS shingles are available in four truly stunning color blends.

IKO Cambridge Cool Colors COOL

Homeowners who want their new roof to emulate the look of natural wood shakes will appreciate the deep shadow bands and woven texture the earthy, medium-toned color blends of this line create. Now they can elevate the curb appeal of their home, as well as its potential energy efficiency. There’s no more need to sacrifice great looks for great performance.

These shingles have an SRI of 20 or greater to meet or exceed the roof reflectance requirements of the Los Angeles City and County Green Building Code.

IKO Cambridge Cool Colors COOL shingles are available in two beautiful medium-hued color blends.

IKO Cambridge Cool Colors Natural Cool

The IKO Cambridge Cool Colors Natural Cool line remains an affordable option for homeowners wishing to boost their home’s curb appeal while potentially reducing its carbon footprint. If blue-green algae resistance is important, the Dual Grey color blend in this line is the only one in the entire collection with that feature. Keep in mind that an SRI that meets or exceeds the homeowner’s local roof reflectance requirements must be the first consideration. This takes priority over algae resistance or color choice.

These shingles have an SRI of 16 or greater, to comply with California’s 2016 Title 24, Part 6, Cool Roof Requirement. Note also that the Arctic White color blend exclusively offers an SRI of 23 and therefore complies with the more stringent environmental standards of the Los Angeles City and County Green Building Code.

IKO Cambridge Cool Colors Natural Cool shingles are available in three of the overall collection’s lightest-toned color blends.

Complementary IKO UltraHP® high-profile hip and ridge cap shingles are available to protect vulnerable roof areas and to create a truly stunning roofline. Only Dual Grey features an algae-resistant granule that helps inhibit discoloration caused by blue-green algae.
